学校体检要用手扒开前面吗高中剛畢業的尤金離開家鄉紐約布魯克林，前往密西西比州的新兵訓練營，接受十個星期的嚴酷磨練。抱有理想主義的尤金念念不忘要完成三個夢想：贏得普立茲文學獎；失去童貞；找到夢中情人。訓練結束時，他總算向男子漢的境界跨進了一步。電影評論：“When I look back now, a lot of years later, I realised my time in the army was the happiest time of my life.
